What an exciting time! Its (un)fortunately coming up to the most wonderful time of the year - Christmas. Whether this fills you with joy or puts the fear of God into you (Bah Humbug!) we all need a helping hand regarding gift ideas. Luckily for you, I am here!
Despite the festive cheer, a sad reality has increasingly become apparent. The non-reusable waste we get through is sadly startling.
As consumers we are looking for alternatives and that is why shops such as The Hoylake Pantry have become cornerstones in many high streets.
This Christmas, they are offering you a sustainable alternative. My blog is here to guide you through their festive treats!
First up is the wonderful Gift Basket! The Pantry offers a prearranged set or for the more adventurous, a fully customisable basket. The basket costs £1.50 and the final price is dependant on the final contents.
For example, a smelly spouse/sibling/friend/relation/partner may require a more fragrant package full of soaps, deodorant and toothpaste.
A messy friend/spouse/etc. would suit a package tailored with kitchen stuff such as reusable kitchen roll, a storage jar or two and possibly some washing up liquid. A cold friend/spouse/etc. may require socks and ahh, you get the picture.
There is also the smaller ‘Gift Box’ on sale. Same premise as before, either a prearranged set, or a fully customisable box costs £1.
This is ideal as a smaller gift, not quite small enough to count as a stocking filler and it will certainly nestle nicely under your ethically sourced Christmas tree
Finally we have a wonderful gift set for you, Mary Makes’ ‘Make your Own Beeswax Food Wrap Kit’. The set costs £13.50.
Food wraps are a sustainable alternative to tin foil and cling film, which clog up our rivers and oceans (not good people).
The playful nature of the set allows the recipient to not only save the planet but also have crafty fun creating their reusable food wrap!
As you can see the kit contains enough fabric to make two medium wraps and one small wrap. It will either come with a bee print, floral print, or geometric pint which is handily circled on the packaging.
Mary Makes is also doing a workshop in The Hoylake Pantry on Tuesday 12th November and Tuesday 10th December. The session start at 6PM and includes a glass of fizz!
Costing £25 its a great way to meet equally ethical minded people, learn how to create a long lasting kitchen product and not drink a whole bottle of Prosecco home alone (much better to do it in the company of friends).
Tickets for the event can be purchased over the counter in The Pantry or bought on Eventbrite (https://tinyurl.com/y2c9ew5b).
Did you know Brits will end up throwing away 108 metres of non-recyclable wrapping paper over Christmas. This year, make a change and buy recyclable wrapping paper from The Hoylake Pantry.
They offer the classic brown roll (lovely with a string bow). There are also floral printed wrapping paper, choose from green and gold or black and gold.
On top of this he Hoylake Pantry will be releasing a hand printed wrapping paper to give you more sustainable wrapping choices than ever before!
